Celebrated pianist and 2010 DJF Artist in Residence Mulgrew Miller and baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan share their compositions and arrangements with the extraordinary Michigan State University Jazz Orchestra. Rodney Whitaker, one of the leading performers and teachers of jazz double bass, conducts the 19-piece Michigan State University Jazz Orchestra. A member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Whitaker has received national recognition as co-leader of the drummer-bass combo Allen & Whitaker (with partner Carl Allen), performing with the Terence Blanchard Quintet and touring internationally as a featured performer with the Roy Hargrove Quintet.
