Hot Club of Detroit
8:15–9:15PM, Absopure Waterfront Stage
“Django Reinhardt is the showerhead from which we all come down,” says guitarist and bandleader Evan Perri. “But if he had lived, I don’t think he would’ve been playing the same things he had in prior years. He was constantly evolving as a jazz musician.” The same can be said for the Hot Club of Detroit, which “. . . continues to project an inquisitive spirit and a venturesome thrust, something that holds true whether it’s revisiting old tunes or unveiling original pieces” (JazzTimes). While earlier Hot Club releases focused on the work either written or performed by Reinhardt and Grappelli, the group’s latest release, It’s About That Time, takes on the likes of Joe Zawinul, Charles Mingus, Pat Martino, Chick Corea and Frederic Chopin. The Hot Club of Detroit consists of Perri, Julian Labro (accordion), Paul Brady (guitar) Andrew Kratzat (bass) and Carl Cafagna (saxophone).
