Nadir
2:30–3:30PM, Mack Avenue Records Pyramid Stage
“When you get right down to it,” explains Nadir, “I’m all about telling stories, singing songs and making music that moves people—spiritually, emotionally, physically, politically, whatever. Don’t just sit there! Do something!” True to his own dictum, the singer/songwriter, producer, journalist and activist has been busy moving the people of Detroit and beyond with his unique blend of rock, soul and pure unadulterated funk. Nadir debuted as a soloist with the release of Distorted Soul 2.0 (2004), which garnered rave reviews from neo-soul, rock and funk fans alike. He followed up with the release of “Slave: The Remixtape,” which climbed to #5 on Billboard’s Club Play charts, and his second full-length recording, Workin’ For The Man. Joining Nadir at Jazz Fest are Chris Spooner (bass and vocals), LaDarrell Johnson (keyboard, sax and vocals), Mahindi Masai (percussion and vocals) and Djallo Djakate (drums and vocals).
