Detroit School of Arts Jazz Ensemble with George Bohannon
4:15–5:00PM, Meijer Jazz Education Stage
Trombonist George Bohannon has enjoyed a stellar career in jazz that has placed him in the company of fellow Detroiters Kenny Burrell, Yusef Lateef, Barry Harris and Donald Byrd, to name a few. He was also a member of the Chico Hamilton Quintet with Charles Lloyd and Gabor Szabo in the early 1960s. In the great tradition of Detroit, Bohannon also has some serious R&B credentials. He was first trombonist at Motown Records, a position he held for seven years, accompanying artists such as Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and many more. Playing to his passion as an educator—he is currently a member of the Jazz Studies program at UCLA—Bohannon will lead the Detroit School of Arts Jazz Ensemble.
