Wendell Harrison and the Detroit Swing Trio

Clarinetist/saxophonist Wendell Harrison made his early reputation playing with famed artists such as Grant Green, Hank Crawford, Eddie Jefferson and Sun Ra in New York in the 1960s. However, it is in his hometown of Detroit where he has had his greatest impact. Harrison, an Arts Midwest Jazz Master, is the co-founder of the legendary Tribe record label and collective (along with Phil Ranelin, Harold McKinney and Marcus Belgrave) and the founder of the WenHa record label and publishing company. He is also the founder of Rebirth, Inc., a non-profit jazz performance and education organization and the author of two volumes of the Be Boppers Method Book .
Wayne State University Jazztet

The Wayne State University Jazztet is comprised of student musicians pursuing a degree in Jazz Studies. The Jazztet explores improvisation, repertoire, and original composition/arranging projects within a small group setting. In addition to performing concerts throughout the semester at Wayne State University, the group can be found performing in and around the city of Detroit.

Perry Hughes is one of the most in-demand guitarists in Detroit, and his reputation among national jazz musicians is legendary. Perry will be joined by Chris Codish on keyboards and Skeeto Valdez on drums.
